ASK BLACK CROWS AND THEY’LL TELL YOU THAT BIG MOUNTAIN RIDING IS THE SOUL OF THE BRAND. NOTHING EMBODIES THAT MANTRA MORE THAN THE ATRIS – A FOREST DWELLING, SUMMIT TACKLING, POWDER SLASHER.

As Black Crows biggest selling ski you’d be right to have high expectations of the Atris, but Holy-Toledo, these things deliver! Stability, float, flow, pop, pivot and flex – the Atris has them all in spades. Several updates have seen the radius lengthened, the flex softened and the tail heightened, resulting in noticeably increased stability at speed without affecting the Atris’ character or handling.

Big Mountain label, All-Mountain versatility

While technically a “Big Mountain” ski, the Atris’ dimensions and design lend themselves well to use across the entire mountain. The 108mm waist, while chunky to some, is actually super versatile - offering awesome float in powder but equally giving the skis rock solid stability in firmer conditions. The softer flex in the nose and tail allows the Atris to absorb high-speed chatter or deflect dreaded snow-cookies in choppy conditions, while the stiffer section underfoot gives you confident and responsive edge control.

Long-lasting construction

With its fibreglass reinforced, full poplar core, the Atris isn’t short on durability. Unlike cheap composite skis, by using a high-quality hardwood like poplar you get strong and consistent performance - and hopefully a ski which’ll keep you shredding for years and years. Fortifying the Atris even more is its ABS semi-cap sidewall, a hybrid topsheet construction which caps the ski in the nose and tail before blending into a shock absorbing ABS sidewall underfoot. This not only lowers the risk of topsheet delamination, but bolsters the Atris against side impacts.

With its relaxed yet obedient flex, the Atris gives you all the loosey-goosey, surfy fun you could hope for in powder, but isn’t short on obedience when the conditions firm up. Its mid-long turn radius makes it handle like a dream at speed, but equally its reverse sidecut keeps it nimble and quick to pivot through the trees at lower speeds. “Big Mountain” is a broad category, but in our opinion the Atris is a ski which treads the All-mountain Freeride line.

Size Guide

The size chart below provides a basic guide to finding the right ski length based on your height and ability but there are several other factors you should consider before choosing your new skis!

The two most relevant considerations when interpreting the chart below are your weight and the type of skiing you intend to do.

Weight: If you’re a heavier built that the average person of your height then we suggest choosing a longer ski as a heavier skier requires more edge to grip the snow and more base area for floatation in powder and cruddy snow.  Conversely, if you’re a slimmer build you may want to consider going for a shorter ski as you’ll need less edge / ski to support your weight than someone of an ‘average’ build.

Skier Type: Secondly, if you want a ski that’s going to inspire confidence when you’re skiing fast and you like to ski faster than most, then a longer ski is going to be preferable.   The additional edge and float provided by a longer ski will give you a more stable ride.  If, however, you’re more freestyle focussed and you want a ski that’s going to be more nimble and easier to manoeuvre at low speeds then a slightly shorter ski will work better for you as there will be less ski to manage.

If you have any queries at all on finding the right ski or ski size for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for further advice.
