ALL TERRAIN CONTROL AND STABILITY FROM A FULLY ROCKERED SKI – THE BLACK CROWS DAEMON IS LIVING PROOF THAT, IF DONE RIGHT, THE FORMULA CAN WORK.

Alright, we know what you’re thinking… “stability and control from a fully rockered ski? Black Crows have been smoking the giggle bush again.” Well, step down from that ivory tower, friend – because that’s exactly what the Daemon delivers. By taking a titanal plate and sticking it slap bang in the middle of the ski, the Daemon has what can only be described as “Franken-flex” – crazy soft in the tip and tail, increasing in stiffness towards the centre where it’s rigid as hell. How does this handle? Pretty much as you’d imagine - slack and super floaty in powder, steadfast and obedient in firm conditions - The best of both worlds.

Fun when you want it, obedience when you need it

As we’ve already touched upon, the secret to the Daemon’s all-terrain versatility is in its construction. By using poppy, responsive poplar wood as a foundation, layering it with biaxial & triaxial fibreglass, then topping it with an aluminium-alloy plate under the mounting point, before finally pressing it with continuous rocker, Black Crows have managed to give the Daemon multiple personalities which manifest themselves in specific conditions. For example, in tightly packed trees the Daemon pivots from its mid-point, keeping it nimble and quick for spur-of-the-moment navigation. Dropping into an untracked face, the reverse camber provides loose, surfy control with plenty of float assistance. When you take to the cat tracks and groomers, the reinforced mid-section keeps things stable and responsive.

A future king-slayer?

To try and pass the Daemon of as first-of-its-kind would be misleading, in reality the “Reinforced Full Rocker” crown belongs to the Volkl Mantra – a ski which needs no introduction. But what the Daemon lacks in metaphorical regal-ware, it makes up for in powder one-upmanship. Boasting significantly more rocker rise, and an earlier start point, the Daemon absolutely trashes its muse on float. Heed our advice – the Daemon more than has the potential to unseat the Mantra… get a set now before they’re as common as muck.

Size Guide

The size chart below provides a basic guide to finding the right ski length based on your height and ability but there are several other factors you should consider before choosing your new skis!

The two most relevant considerations when interpreting the chart below are your weight and the type of skiing you intend to do.

Weight: If you’re a heavier built that the average person of your height then we suggest choosing a longer ski as a heavier skier requires more edge to grip the snow and more base area for floatation in powder and cruddy snow.  Conversely, if you’re a slimmer build you may want to consider going for a shorter ski as you’ll need less edge / ski to support your weight than someone of an ‘average’ build.

Skier Type: Secondly, if you want a ski that’s going to inspire confidence when you’re skiing fast and you like to ski faster than most, then a longer ski is going to be preferable.   The additional edge and float provided by a longer ski will give you a more stable ride.  If, however, you’re more freestyle focussed and you want a ski that’s going to be more nimble and easier to manoeuvre at low speeds then a slightly shorter ski will work better for you as there will be less ski to manage.

If you have any queries at all on finding the right ski or ski size for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for further advice.
