SURFY AND PLAYFUL IN DEEP CONDITIONS, CONTROLLED AND MANAGEABLE ON HARDPACK – THE BLACK CROWS NAVIS IS THE SKI YOU CAN RIP MOUNTAIN-WIDE, ALL SEASON LONG, WHATEVER THE CONDITIONS.

For years it was one of the biggest challenges in ski design – how do you make a ski perform as well on piste or in powder, as it performs on/in the other? Rockered powder skis had as much control as tea-trays on hardpack, and skinny piste skis sank like the Titanic in anything deeper than a mouse’s armpit – that was until some boffin worked out the perfect ratio of waist-width-to-camber-to-flex. It’s this golden-ratio that the Black Crows Navis adopts in its design, and the reason why it’s just so gosh-darn awesome whatever the mountain holds.

Like a lopsided seagull

Starting at the nose, the Navis has a generous amount of reverse camber – providing effortless lift and planing in powder – which gradually evens out at the contact points. Under foot you’ll find traditional positive camber, which gives the Navis a lively, yet controlled handle on firmer surfaces. This continues towards early rise in the tail before evening out to flat, meaning the Navis holds its edge throughout the whole turn. By adopting this profile – and utilising a 102mm waist -  the Navis gains the positive characteristics from both camber types without sacrificing float in powder or control on piste.

Defend yourself against snow-snakes

No matter how good a skier you are, the mountain holds plenty of its own ski-ending hazards for you to navigate. Whether it’s an unseen rock waiting to blow out an edge, or an uncoordinated snowboarder stepping on your tips in the lift line, your skis can be subject to a lot of abuse. That’s why the Navis is built using only the strongest and most durable materials. Poplar throughout the core gives the skis their solid foundations; complemented by biaxial fibreglass to stiffen up the flex. Housed under a hybrid semi-cap topsheet/ABS sidewall which reduces the chances of delamination and unsightly chips, whilst also bracing against side impacts from trees, rocks and other mountain-users. Rounded-off with overbuilt, tempered steel edges which are thicker than those found on regular skis for dramatically increased durability and deflection.

Thanks to its versatile camber blend and balanced flex pattern, the Navis is both user-friendly and accessible, yet doesn’t lack obedience in high-paced terrain. The long classic camber not only means the Navis carves extremely well on hardpack, with quick edge-to-edge transition, but they also handle crud, ice, powder and slush with equal ability. A solid choice for intermediate and advanced skiers, the Navis is the perfect directional freeride ski for getting you anywhere on the mountain.

Size Guide

The size chart below provides a basic guide to finding the right ski length based on your height and ability but there are several other factors you should consider before choosing your new skis!

The two most relevant considerations when interpreting the chart below are your weight and the type of skiing you intend to do.

Weight: If you’re a heavier built that the average person of your height then we suggest choosing a longer ski as a heavier skier requires more edge to grip the snow and more base area for floatation in powder and cruddy snow.  Conversely, if you’re a slimmer build you may want to consider going for a shorter ski as you’ll need less edge / ski to support your weight than someone of an ‘average’ build.

Skier Type: Secondly, if you want a ski that’s going to inspire confidence when you’re skiing fast and you like to ski faster than most, then a longer ski is going to be preferable.   The additional edge and float provided by a longer ski will give you a more stable ride.  If, however, you’re more freestyle focussed and you want a ski that’s going to be more nimble and easier to manoeuvre at low speeds then a slightly shorter ski will work better for you as there will be less ski to manage.

If you have any queries at all on finding the right ski or ski size for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for further advice.
