If you’re looking for a ski which absolute dominates powder, the Black Crows Nocta make super-short work of backcountry treelines and pillow drops. Thanks to the fully reverse camber, the Nocta turns quickly and sharply in deep conditions, whilst the narrower tip width reduces swing weight, making butters and spins feel effortless. Wide float and serious manoeuvrability make the Nocta the ultimate toy for big powder days.

Sitting bang on mid-flex they’re ideal for advanced intermediate skiers and above who’re looking for a big-mountain ski that’s playful and forgiving without losing response or power.

Built around a full wood core comprised of Poplar, a high-quality hardwood with great flexibility properties, and superlight Paulownia, known for its incredible strength-to-weight ratio. This configuration ensures the ski provides continuous, even flex from tip to tail, whilst also being one of the lightest skis in its class, at less than 4kg per pair (185cm). This is complemented by a biaxial fibreglass which runs the full length of the ski and enhances the ski’s pop and rebound.

The Nocta features an ABS semi-cap sidewall, a hybrid construction which partially folds the ski’s topsheet over the edges where they’re fused together with shock absorbing ABS sidewall material. This reduces the instances of topsheet delamination and unsightly chips, whilst also bolstering the ski against side impacts from trees, rocks and other unseen threats. Additionally, they benefit from overbuilt, tempered steel edges which are thicker than those on regular skis for dramatically increased durability and deflection.

The Nocta’s extended sidecut offers incredible stability at high speeds, whilst the full tip-to-tail rocker provides effortless, surfy float in in powder, regardless of whether you’re skiing regular or switch.

What we say: “If you’re Japan or BC bound this winter, the Black Crows could very well be your powder saviour. Big enough to tackle even the deepest of days without weighing you down thanks to their lightweight core construction.”

Size Guide

The size chart below provides a basic guide to finding the right ski length based on your height and ability but there are several other factors you should consider before choosing your new skis!

The two most relevant considerations when interpreting the chart below are your weight and the type of skiing you intend to do.

Weight: If you’re a heavier built that the average person of your height then we suggest choosing a longer ski as a heavier skier requires more edge to grip the snow and more base area for floatation in powder and cruddy snow.  Conversely, if you’re a slimmer build you may want to consider going for a shorter ski as you’ll need less edge / ski to support your weight than someone of an ‘average’ build.

Skier Type: Secondly, if you want a ski that’s going to inspire confidence when you’re skiing fast and you like to ski faster than most, then a longer ski is going to be preferable.   The additional edge and float provided by a longer ski will give you a more stable ride.  If, however, you’re more freestyle focussed and you want a ski that’s going to be more nimble and easier to manoeuvre at low speeds then a slightly shorter ski will work better for you as there will be less ski to manage.

If you have any queries at all on finding the right ski or ski size for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for further advice.
