The last week has seen some further snow across Scotland with conditions improving across the board which has been aided by the new snow cannons in many resorts. Cairngorm had 5 lifts running yesterday but is currently stormbound ? not ideal for today but we should see conditions improve for when it settles! Glenshee is almost ready for snowsports but need just a little more snow to open… The Lecht has most Runs complete with an “excellent” cover and probably the best conditions right now and Glencoe has 5 lifts open with soft snow on a firm base. Finally, Nevis has much improved conditions with soft snow on a good base on many runs with others requiring a little more to complete them.
It looks to be a fairly wild start to the weekend with high winds and snow fall through Friday and early Saturday. For the weekend, in the East, it’s going to be patchy showers with good visibility and low wind speeds and freezing level will be around the summits. In the West it’s set to be cloudier with moderate winds from the southwest. Again, freezing levels will be around the summits. For a full update at 1pm today check: http://mwis.org.uk/
Still fairly limited in the way of parks. Some rails might be set up at the Lecht and Cairngorm subject to snowfall ? check in with them for specific details.
With the recent snowfall and heavy winds forecast today the avalanche risk from SAIS is increasing from Moderate to Considerable with wind loading and poorly bonded windlab on West through North to North-Easterly aspects. For full reports of all the Scottish Areas check out: http://www.sais.gov.uk/
