Hang out with Tentsile

Although they're a relative newcomer to the outdoor industry, Tentsile can trace their roots all the way back to the mind of a young boy in 1983. That young boy was founder and inventor, Alex Shirley-Smith.

Inspired by the Ewok Villages of Star Wars, the young Alex became interested in the idea that we could protect trees if we put more value in them. And that one way we could value them higher was if we lived in them.

Since then, Alex dedicated his life to learning how to build all manner of weird and wonderful tree houses - forcing us to re-evaluate how we look at our relationship with trees living amongst them - with some amazing results.

After training as an architect, one of the results of his work and experiments with tree living was the Tentsile concept. The idea was based on spider webs, which use tension based on three solid anchor points to create an awesomely strong and versatile platform in space - and that's exactly what Tentsile products are.

Part hammock, part tent, and all ingenuity, Tentsile's range of awesome tree tents are the must-have product for outdoor enthusiasts, campers, trekkers, hikers and anyone who's looking for a totally unique outdoor sleeping experience. String one up during the day and they’re the ideal place to chill out with your mates. Rig on up at night and they give you up to four-season shelter, strength and versatility.

Super functional, and not just for trees!

Tentsile tents come with weather-proof fly sheets for shelter, bug netting to keep out biting insects and creepy crawlies, and two or more incredibly comfortable hammock-style berths. Pin out the fly sheet and you’ve got a huge additional shelter underneath your Tentsile tent. They can even be stacked, one above the other, to accommodate more friends or create a living room / bed room / kitchen scenario – anything your mind can imagine, they’re that flexible.

One of the key benefits of a Tentsile product over a traditional tent is their ability to exist on severely uneven or even waterlogged ground with no problems whatsoever. And of course, you don’t need to suspend them between trees. Really, they’ll work perfectly well between any sturdy object that can take the weight. String them between huge boulders on a climbing trip, or just out the back of your trucks on a team tailgating or car camping overnighter. Versatility is the name of the game!
