When it comes to soft-flexing, super poppy cambered snowboards, the Capita Thunderstick is your weapon of choice. Built as an affordable, yet tech heavy progression board, the Thunderstick has incredible all-mountain versatility, taking ruts, moguls and choppy snowpack in its stride.

Just a touch softer than mid-flex, the Thunderstick is a great choice for advanced beginners and up who are looking for their first board or as an affordable all-mountain compliment to your already extensive quiver of boards.

Built around Capita’s eco-friendly RFC Sustainable Select core, an FSC certified core made with a single species Poplar grain for a smooth, consistent ride. Extending from edge to edge and tip to tail the wood grain has no knots or finger joints enhancing response and providing a completely uniform flex pattern.

The board’s edges feature shock absorbing ABS sidewall construction for impact resistance and vibration dampening. This is complemented and bolstered against impact by the heat treated, hardened steel edge rails. The tip and tail of the Thunderstick feature Capita’s Bitter End Deflection technology, this intuitive design works by deflecting nose/tail impacts along the edges of the board and up into the sidewall, making it much harder to split or delaminate the topsheet and sidewalls.

The Thunderstick utilises Capita’s Form 6 fibreglass, biaxial laminates layered on the base and topside of the core. Each layer has fibres aligned at zero and 90 degree angles, laminated to increase energy and durability. This progressive glass configuration is laid up wet by hand during the lamination process and provides a durable predictable board that initiates turns easily, while retaining the pop necessary to handle variable conditions. The topsheet is bonded to the core using Capita’s “Evo Resin,” comprised of 60% plant based, renewable, agricultural raw materials produced with no waste or greenhouse emissions.

All boards in Capita’s range feature their exclusive PLT Topsheet technology, a propriety method of bonding the topsheet to an already pressed snowboard. This process is unique to Capita, while the rest of the snowboard industry affix their topsheets with glue, heat and pressure during the pressing stage. Doing so causes the fiberglass structure underneath to show through the topsheet and because nobody wants to spend their hard earned cash on an unsightly bumpy snowboard, many companies then slather the topsheet with a thick toxic lacquer to smooth things out. Not only does this add lots of additional weight and has been known to develop unsightly hairline cracks it’s also very toxic on the environment. Capita’s PLT machine produces a featherlight, smooth, high-gloss finish, without all the pollutants found in other snowboard’s manufacture.

The XXXtruded base has all of the characteristics of a normal extruded base but, due to higher pressure and temperature during the manufacturing process, has a surface hardness closer to that of a sintered base. This increased durability and surface strength results in a base that will have a much longer lifespan and be more durable against jibbing and bombing around the mountain.

The Thunderstick features mainly positive camber, New Age profile. Fully cambered underfoot, this freestyle camber configuration flattens to zero camber 4cm before the end of the sidecut. The small zero camber sections provide a more controlled ride while retaining the response and power of a cambered board.

Every board in Capita’s line is designed with four unique blend zones. This is the area after the sidecut ends and before the nose or tail shape starts. In this small section, the shape of the board must transition from a sidecut arc going one direction, into the tip shape arc going in the opposite direction. This very important section of the board is similar to the steering in your car. It's the driving force in initiating turns and determining where your board is going. A poorly designed blend zone will cause your board to be hooky or turn slowly and can limit your ability to transition between edges. Capita has taken the time to pay distinct attention to this detail; fine-tuning each and every board to make sure your riding experience is balanced and perfect.

What we say: “Affordability doesn’t always equate to poor quality, the Thunderstick is testament to this. Boasting bags of tech and on-hill performance for a budget-beating price tag. It’s one of our go-to beginner boards or as a quiver complementing dome or rock-hopping ride.”
