The Wailer family of skis are considered the most useable, all mountain, all season skis in DPS’s range. The four models within, and their female counterparts, are among some of the most decorated skis in the snowsports industry, boasting awards and accolades from some of the most respected testers and media outlets.

DPS’s Foundation range aims to make their skis more accessible by employing the same best-in-class shapes, design and build quality as their premium lines, but utilising more affordable materials during the construction process. This means the average person can afford to see what the DPS hype is all about without breaking the bank in the process.

The Wailer Foundation 106 blends DPS’s affordable bamboo core with their award winning Wailer shape and design. The result is a versatile, high performance yet forgiving all-mountain charger that leans towards sidecountry hits and powder lines.

Flexing a touch stiffer than mid-flex, it’s best suited to intermediates and up who want a ski that’s geared towards piste charging with a good measure of powder and crud on the side.

Built around DPS’s Bi-Phase core, comprised of bamboo with strategically layered poplar inserts, the result is a perfect balance of super-lightweight performance without losing rebound and pop. This makes the ski easier to turn by reducing its overall swing-weight while retaining a fun and responsive liveliness edge-to-edge. This is complemented by a band of unidirectional carbon fibre, running down the ski’s centreline from tip to tail, which is blended with triaxial fibreglass which runs outward towards the ski’s edges. This ensures even energy transfer throughout full length of the ski and out towards the edges for sustained edge hold.

The fully capped polyamide topsheet features a textured finish which snow struggles to adhere to, this makes it particularly good in fresh snow which has a tendency to accumulate on top of skis. When skiing through snow-fields or in heavy snow this piling can drastically affect stamina and speed so by shedding this built-up snow the skis don’t become cumbersome or unmanageable.

Known for being the fastest bases available, the Wailer F106 features a high graphite content, fully sintered, World Cup level race PTEX. This ensures maximum speed and agility, while the high level of wax absorption, abrasion resistance and durability means the base retains excellent gliding characteristics throughout the life of the ski.

The UHMW sidewall material, a form of PTEX, is known for its high level of temperature and impact resistance, as well as its excellent glide qualities when the ski is holding an edge.

A tapered, flatter sidecut section, known as Paddle Tech, blends the radius into the contact points to give the ski a uniquely smooth and intuitive feel. This is then topped off with a hybrid rocker/camber profile, a blend of reverse camber in the nose and tail with traditional camber underfoot. The rocker helps the ski to stay catch-free at the contact points and aids float in deep snow, while the camber underfoot keeps the ski obedient and precise on icy or wind-scoured snowpack.

What we say: “With its 106mm waist, the Wailer F106 is the perfect size for an all mountain ready, one-ski-quiver. It’s wide enough to give you loads of float assistance but not too wide that it’s cumbersome and sluggish from one edge to the other.”

Size Guide

The size chart below provides a basic guide to finding the right ski length based on your height and ability but there are several other factors you should consider before choosing your new skis!

The two most relevant considerations when interpreting the chart below are your weight and the type of skiing you intend to do.

Weight: If you’re a heavier built that the average person of your height then we suggest choosing a longer ski as a heavier skier requires more edge to grip the snow and more base area for floatation in powder and cruddy snow.  Conversely, if you’re a slimmer build you may want to consider going for a shorter ski as you’ll need less edge / ski to support your weight than someone of an ‘average’ build.

Skier Type: Secondly, if you want a ski that’s going to inspire confidence when you’re skiing fast and you like to ski faster than most, then a longer ski is going to be preferable.   The additional edge and float provided by a longer ski will give you a more stable ride.  If, however, you’re more freestyle focussed and you want a ski that’s going to be more nimble and easier to manoeuvre at low speeds then a slightly shorter ski will work better for you as there will be less ski to manage.

If you have any queries at all on finding the right ski or ski size for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for further advice.
