The original freestyle all-mountain ski in Faction’s range, the Soma has benefitted from a construction overhaul this season, the result is increased durability and control meaning it’s even more comfortable over the entire mountain. As comfortable in the park as it is on-piste, it’s still wide enough to take onto the slack-country if you don’t mind working the 90mm waist. The rocker in the nose and tail not only reduces the chance of catching your edges but also helps with butters and presses, while camber underfoot provides great edge hold and stability through the turn. Slightly stiffer than mid-flex, it’s a great choice for intermediate and advanced skiers who want a ski which is powerful and obedient but doesn’t lack forgiveness and flex.

The Uni-body capped construction utilises a full wood core over which the topsheet is folded, completely covering the sidewall of the ski. This helps to reduce the overall weight and cuts down on the amount of material used in production.

The core is comprised of Poplar, a mid-weight, shock absorbing softwood and Beech, a heavier hardwood which compliments the Poplar by increasing power and response.

Complimented with a rubber dampening layer which is used to bond the base to the core while simultaneously working to absorb any vibration.

The die-cut base utilises sintered 4000 P-Tex, a highly porous material with high top speed and great durability.

The Soma makes use of a dual radius sidecut, two different radii along the sidecut which gives the ski a tighter radius ahead of the mounting point whilst simultaneously increasing the turn radius behind it. The result is increased edge-to-edge response which allows you to carve short radius turns whilst retaining high speed, stability and control through the tail. This works in tandem with the blended transition zones, a complex geometry design that increases stability and control where the rocker/camber and positive/negative sidecut meet on the ski.

What we say: “If pressing boxes, buttering cat-tracks and slashing slush is your thing then the Soma is the ski to do it on. Fun and playful, the only limitation to its freestyle performance is your creativity.”

Size Guide

The size chart below provides a basic guide to finding the right ski length based on your height and ability but there are several other factors you should consider before choosing your new skis!

The two most relevant considerations when interpreting the chart below are your weight and the type of skiing you intend to do.

Weight: If you’re a heavier built that the average person of your height then we suggest choosing a longer ski as a heavier skier requires more edge to grip the snow and more base area for floatation in powder and cruddy snow.  Conversely, if you’re a slimmer build you may want to consider going for a shorter ski as you’ll need less edge / ski to support your weight than someone of an ‘average’ build.

Skier Type: Secondly, if you want a ski that’s going to inspire confidence when you’re skiing fast and you like to ski faster than most, then a longer ski is going to be preferable.   The additional edge and float provided by a longer ski will give you a more stable ride.  If, however, you’re more freestyle focussed and you want a ski that’s going to be more nimble and easier to manoeuvre at low speeds then a slightly shorter ski will work better for you as there will be less ski to manage.

If you have any queries at all on finding the right ski or ski size for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for further advice.
