Peak Design was founded by Minnesota born native Peter Dering, where after a 4 month escapade around the globe he realised there were a limited amount of option for carrying DSLR cameras. On his return to an apartment in San Francisco, Peter followed in the footsteps on innovators before him, quit his job and spent the next 10 months designing the Capture clip.




Launched on Kickstarter in May 2011, Capture was a success and Peak Design was born. The company moved to a little office in San Francisco's Dogpatch neighbourhood. Peak Design is currently the world’s most crowdfunded active company, having raised over $15 Million over the course of 6 Kickstarter projects since it founding year. Campaign funding allows Peak Design to focus on customer service and product development without focusing on traditional growth goals demanded by investors.    




The design philosophy of Peak Design is based around concepts of elegance and utility, where ‘products should provide solutions to real world problems and not create them’. Whenever a Peak Design product is launched the company never stops in their efforts to try and improve upon perfection. For regular hard use gear Peak Designs offer a lifetime guarantee, to ensure products remain in use and reduce the negative effect of production on the environment.




With a philosophy that resolves around prioritising happiness overgrowth one of the mission values of Peak Design is to offset environmental impact. Where as a company they aim to leave the planet better than they found it, consequently they donate 1% of revenue to environmental non-profits. Thus ensuring environmental sustainability for future generations, so they can find joy in the wilderness areas around them.
