If your days are spent in pursuit of your next powder fix and your only time on piste is getting back to the lifts or resort then the 2019 Faction Candide CT 4.0 was made for you. The hugely successful pro-model of La Clusaz internet-sensation and all-around ski wizard Candide Thovex uses the narrower 3.0 as its foundation but adds more powder-friendly width and design into the mix. The result is a ski which charges and slashes powder with unbelievable float but remains fun and playful, meaning you're free to throw a powder butter or huck a cliff if the fancy takes you without being weighed down.
Go-anywhere hybrid profile and a super-versatile sidecut
The rocker in nose and tail combines with that chunky 118m waist to provide lift and improve butterability in pow while also reducing the chance of catching your edges. Camber underfoot delivers great edge hold and stability through the turn, along with a bit of shock absorption for those big hits. Sitting between stiff and mid-flex, the 4.0 is a great choice for intermediate and advanced skiers who want a ski which is powerful and obedient but retains a little bit of forgiving flex should you need it. A Multi-Dimension Sidecut with shorter radius underfoot and longer radii blended out to the tip and tail lets you tailor the turn radius to your environment - short for tight couloirs, long for straight-line charging.
Light on your feet for a nimble but solid-feeling ride
Built using sandwich construction, the core is light balsa laminated together with strips of woven flax to improve torsional stiffness and increase pop in the nose and tail. A rubber dampening layer helps to soak up unwanted vibrations in choppy conditions and Titanal plates underfoot ensure that the binding screws are fully locked into the core. The super-fast die-cut base utilises sintered 4000 P-Tex, a highly porous material with high top speed and great durability, while the matte topsheet with Microcap protection resists chipping.
If it's good enough for Candide, it's good enough for anyone. Highly recommended.
