The new 2019 Alpinist 9 Touring Binding from Marker emphasises smooth and simple functionality at crazy-low weights. It's fair to say that this is one of the most useable touring bindings on the market this year - enough to rival some of the long-standing lightweight classics. If you're into quick-minute ascents and ultra-light tech (without smashing the budget) then you're on the right track.
Simple, smooth, and effective.
The Alpinist 9 takes a functional approach to a classic touring binding. Rather than pack it with crazy tech they've opted to take the most useable features and make them work insanely well. The result, as you'll see, is a truly reliable binding that climbs impeccably - at a mad-low weight of around 245g (without brake) a piece.
Refined technology that works well
The Alpinist features active length compensation that moves the heel piece on a track to compensate for the change in length due to ski flex, this dramatically improves the boot-binding reflex and feeling. Marker's toe-piece design is solid but the Alpinist 9's heel design really shines the brightest.
