The Yulex® R1 is a neoprene-free wetsuit by Patagonia, created from an innovative mixture of 85% natural and 15% synthetic rubber. By eliminating the normally petroleum-based neoprene and using a plant-based substitute, they can provide both the warmth and performance you'd expect to get from a traditional neoprene-based wetsuit while reducing CO2 emissions by up to 80%.
The natural rubber that Patagonia uses is sourced from Forest Stewardship Council® certified and Rainforest Alliance approved suppliers, before being blended with synthetic rubber that's chlorine-free. This blending improves the ozone and UV resistance of the suit, creating a final product that's going to be strong, flexible and durable enough to stand up to anything that you or mother nature can throw at it.
The R1 employs an anatomical design to maximize your flexibility and comfort while keeping the overall weight to a minimum. It uses 2mm of superlight R1 Yulex, with a flexible and quick-drying liner made from 100% recycled polyester - further boosting the suit's green credentials.
The fully-replaceable Salmi® floating front zip gives you easy access in and out and, being replaceable, increases the suit's potential lifespan - keeping it clear of landfill for longer.
An asymmetrical zip flap gives a superb seal and excellent flexibility across the chest and shoulders, while the very hard-wearing Supratex kneepads and ankle cuffs are resistant to abrasion from long sessions paddling out and popping up.
All of the wetsuit's seams are externally sealed, triple glued, blind-stitched and internally taped to make them highly watertight.
If you're an environmentally-minded surfer who regularly finds themselves in water around 65 to 75° F or 18 to 23° C, this could very well be the suit for you.
