Overview

SLICING AND DICING ITS WAY THROUGH THE BACKCOUNTRY AND BEYOND, THE KATANA EMBODIES ITS NAMESAKE

It's the ski of choice for Volkl big mountain pros… and for good reason - the 2020 Katana V-Werks is one serious piece of kit. Conquer chutes with pin-point accuracy, traverse wind-scoured faces with reliable edge hold and charge spines effortlessly on this innovative next-gen ski. While the Katana's technically a freeride ski, there's no reason not to mount them with a lightweight touring binding -getting you into harder to reach areas for almost limitless backcountry possibilities. Stiff without compromising playfulness, the Katana is intended for only the most advanced and expert skiers.

Dedicated to premium craftmanship and lightweight finesse.

A mainstay in Volkl's state-of-the-art V-WERKS line, the Katana is constructed using only the most premium materials. Underfoot there's powerful and responsive Ash wood, then through the nose and tail you'll find ultralight, yet durable, Paulownia. This unique combination of woods not only give the Katana solid and reliable edge-hold with an even flex pattern from tip-to-tail, but it ensures that the final product is as light as it possibly can be. Coupled with Volkl's carbon-fibre wrapped 3D.Ridge design - which centres the ski's fulcrum underfoot for drastically reduced swing weight - the Katana is perfect for hiking big mountain lines, before dropping into no-fall zones where precision and stability are paramount.

Full throttle powder prowess

When you finally find yourself in the deep stuff, the Katana's full rocker camber gives you bags of float to keep you sitting high. As well as increasing buoyancy, the raised contact points also reduce the chances of catching your edges in firmer conditions. This is complemented by the Katana's tapered nose and tail design which shifts the widest points of the sidecut towards the centre of the ski. As well as a further reduction in tip and tail hang-ups on hard pack, it gives the skis a turn radius which you'd normally only achieve by dropping several sizes.

Sometimes too much ski is a bad thing, however Volkl have somehow managed to build one of the most technologically advanced skis on the planet, yet ensure it retains a playful, fun and manageable character. The Katana might not be the cheapest ski around, but if you can justify the expense the trade-off is years of free-skiing fun.

UNFORTUNATELY, WE'ARE UNABLE TO SHIP THIS PRODUCT OUTSIDE OF EUROPE, SWITZERLAND OR NORWAY
