FOR TIPS & TRICKS ON HOW TO MAKE A MOCKERY OF OTHER PINTECH BINDINGS, READ ON…
Like it’s less burly sibling, the Marker Kingpin 13 is currently the only TÜV DIN/ISO certified PinTech binding on the market. Unlike its sibling however, the Kingpin 13 is best suited to more proficient freetourers who love to push their skis to the limit on their descents. The secret of its rock-solid performance isn’t just in Kingpin’s DIN spring though, it’s revolutionary Six-Pack power toe piece boasts an additional two-springs, increasing its boot retention while simultaneously buffering you against dreaded pre-release.
Getting off the beaten track
When the time comes to earn your turns the Kingpin’s hiking features make sure you summit with the least amount of hassle. With walk mode engaged, a simple push on the heelpiece with your boot locks the brake in the up position, ready for skinning. When you start to feel the burn in your thighs, the multi-angle climbing aids help to ease the pain by giving you zero, three or seven degrees of elevation depending on your gradient.
Unlike standard PinTech bindings, with only two pins to secure your heel, the Kingpin’s XXL power transmitting heel piece wraps the whole boot heel in a similar way to traditional alpine bindings. The result is a next-gen PinTech binding which gives you the most direct power transmission of any freetouring binding. Combined with the Six-pack power spring toe, it’s easy to see why the Kingpin reigns supreme.
The culmination of years of R&D, the Kingpin first made waves in winter of 2015/16 when it took the freetouring market by storm, upsetting the purist and gram-counters. Keen to show it wasn’t just another one-trick pony, Marker made a few subtle updates for W16/17 and, as expected, it left its opposition in its rooster tails for the second year running.
