When you’re travelling in the backcountry under your own steam, every gram you save counts. The award winning Ortovox Ascent 22 AVABAG has been constructed with one goal in mind; removing as much unnecessary weight as possible, whilst remaining functional and fit for purpose.

Constructed using an extremely lightweight, water and abrasion resistant, PU coated 100 denier ripstop nylon, the bag (without AVABAG unit) provides 22 litres of internal space and weighs a mere 830g.

Special attention has been paid to wearer comfort; the 3D back panel has been designed to evenly distribute weight between the hip fins, while the padded shoulder straps help to reduce fatigue on longer tours.

The main compartment utilises a water-resistant circular zip which opens a full 270 degrees, allowing the bag to be flipped opened for quick and easy access to your necessities. Additionally, a secondary pocket includes storage sleeves for shovel blade, handle and probes.

The Ascent 22 also features diagonal ski carry, as well as snowboard/snowshoe attachments. The pack also has attachment points for an ice axe and ropes and is water bladder/hydration compatible.

Included with the pack is the removeable, AVABAG avalanche airbag system. Designed to be superlight and incredibly compact, it weighs in at 690g, or when combined with the activation canister* and backpack, just 1950g. What’s more, because the AVABAG unit is optional, the pack can be used separately when you’re staying frontside.

A leg loop strap helps to secure the pack in position in the event the airbag is detonated. This ensures that the pack offers buoyancy to the user, rather than the pack riding up their back due to the pressure of the avalanche snow.

The activation unit is housed inside the venturi (choke cone) and has been constructed using a reduced number of components, and without any electronics, ensuring a completely reliable and robust, closed system. This means dirt, water, ice or dust ingress and corrosion are all eliminated.

The non-slip activation handle has been designed so it can be effectively gripped with any type of glove, and is suitable for both left and right-handed users. Its length can also be adjusted so it can be tailored for different users and their individual reach.

Another feature of the AVABAG system is the activation training. With the canister disengaged you can practice pulling the activation handle so that you’re well prepared for an emergency situation.

OUR RETURNS POLICY

Generally, we'll be happy to exchange or refund anything you've bought for up to one month from the date you receive it, so long as it’s in perfect, unused condition. If you'd like to return or exchange an item you bought more than one month ago, then you may be able to, but please email us about it first – a small restocking charge may also apply.
