Freeride-specific comfort and performance, with impact protection and an extremely lightweight airbag system
Constructed using a lightweight, water and abrasion-resistant, PU-coated ripstop nylon, the bag (without AVABAG unit) weighs a mere 1440g. Built into the bag is Ortovox’s SPS Flex Back System; 8 separate sections of fully flexible, shock absorbing foam which transform the bag’s rear panel into an in-built back protector. Soft and malleable in its regular state, the panel conforms to the wearer’s back for a comfortable, bespoke fit. Under impact however, the individual panels stiffen up, helping to direct impact away from the spine and defuse it safely.
A spacious pack with plenty of attachment points
The bag's main compartment boasts a full 22 litres of packable space, even with the airbag installed. Additionally, a secondary pocket includes storage sleeves for shovel blade, handle and probes. This is complemented by a hip pocket on the bag’s wasit wing, for small items like tools or snacks. The Free Rider 22 also features diagonal ski carry, snowboard/snowshoe attachments, attachments for your ice axe and ropes, and is water bladder/hydration compatible.
Integrated avalanche airbag
As well as the integrated back protector, another important safety aspect of the Free Rider 22 is the removeable AVABAG avalanche airbag system. Designed to be superlight and incredibly compact, it weighs in at 690g, or when combined with the activation canister* and backpack, just 2160g. What’s more, because the AVABAG unit is optional, the pack can be used separately when you’re staying frontside. The bag's leg loop strap helps to secure the pack in position when the airbag is detonated and makes sure that the bag takes you with it when it starts to rise through the avalanche.
Simple activation that works every time
The activation unit is housed inside the venturi (choke cone) and has been constructed using a reduced number of components, and without any electronics, ensuring a completely reliable and robust, closed system. This means dirt, water, ice or dust ingress and corrosion are all eliminated. The non-slip activation handle has been designed so it can be effectively gripped with any type of glove, and is suitable for both left and right-handed users. Its length can also be adjusted so it can be tailored for different users and their individual reach. With the canister disengaged you can practice pulling the activation handle so that you’re well prepared for an emergency situation, if and when it happens.

OUR RETURNS POLICY
Generally, we'll be happy to exchange or refund anything you've bought for up to one month from the date you receive it, so long as it’s in perfect, unused condition. If you'd like to return or exchange an item you bought more than one month ago, then you may be able to, but please email us about it first – a small restocking charge may also apply.
