Blending a burly frame with lightweight materials, the Soul 7 is still the playful ski it was, but now with improved damping for less chatter

One of the most requested skis on the market and a consistent best-seller at Freeze, the Rossignol Soul 7 HD is back for the 17/18 season with an updated nose and tail. The Air Tip technology that made the previous version so recognisable has returned as Air Tip 2.0 – the cored-out honeycomb design is stronger, lighter and integrates further down into the ski’s chassis to minimise tip deflection, reduce instability and cut down on chatter.

An awesome blend of float, power and edge hold

But don’t fret – you still get that light, manoeuvrable, playful feel, with minimal swing weight, that everyone loved about the previous Soul 7 HD. It’s still 106mm underfoot for a stable and floaty platform in the soft stuff, and it still uses Rossi’s hybrid Powder Turn profile. With around 25% of the ski's length in rocker up front, 4mm of camber underfoot and around 12% of the ski's length in rocker out back, it's a directional pow charger that's not afraid of being stuck on a high-speed edge on piste.

Lightweight construction with torsional stiffness

Also back again is the clever Carbon Alloy Matrix core. It uses a Paulownia wood and a carbon/basalt weave to provide a stable and torsionally-rigid platform that’s light and precise, with great shock absorption. Add on an ultra-durable chip-resisitant minicap topsheet and super-fast Sintered HD base and you’ve got a quite formidable construction.

A real all-mountain charger

Sitting between mid and stiff flex, the Soul 7 HD puts an emphasis on control and obedience while absorbing ruts, bumps and moguls. Best suited for advanced intermediates and up, who want a ski that charges, floats or tours the whole mountain. Rossignol have got the formula spot on with the Soul 7 HD and it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular ski.

The best bits…

  • Lightweight Air Tip 2.0 reduces swing-weight
  • Stable Carbon Alloy Matrix Core with Paulownia and Basalt/Carbon Weave
  • Dynamic Power Turn 90%-camber profile boosts grip
  • Centred sidecut is easy to steer and playful
  • Chip-resistant Minicap Sandwich Sidewall Construction improves durability
  • Super-fast Sintered HD base

Size Guide

The size chart below provides a basic guide to finding the right ski length based on your height and ability but there are several other factors you should consider before choosing your new skis!

The two most relevant considerations when interpreting the chart below are your weight and the type of skiing you intend to do.

Weight: If you’re a heavier built that the average person of your height then we suggest choosing a longer ski as a heavier skier requires more edge to grip the snow and more base area for floatation in powder and cruddy snow.  Conversely, if you’re a slimmer build you may want to consider going for a shorter ski as you’ll need less edge / ski to support your weight than someone of an ‘average’ build.

Skier Type: Secondly, if you want a ski that’s going to inspire confidence when you’re skiing fast and you like to ski faster than most, then a longer ski is going to be preferable.   The additional edge and float provided by a longer ski will give you a more stable ride.  If, however, you’re more freestyle focussed and you want a ski that’s going to be more nimble and easier to manoeuvre at low speeds then a slightly shorter ski will work better for you as there will be less ski to manage.

If you have any queries at all on finding the right ski or ski size for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for further advice.
