CRACK OUT THE BAMBO SWORDS… OH, NOT THAT KIND OF KENDO?

Volkl will tell you the Kendo’s an all-mountain freeride ski, and frankly, we don’t think we could have categorised it better ourselves. Thanks to their user-friendly design, manageable waist width and catch-free camber, the Kendo is – in our humble opinion - one of the most versatile skis on the market. They’re as comfortable on groomers as they are in powder, trees and mogul fields, meaning if you’re looking for that coveted one-ski quiver, you might have just found it. Slightly stiffer than mid-flex, they’re perfect for skiers who want a responsive and stable ski with just enough flex and forgiveness to absorb vibrations or unseen ruts and moguls. Ideal for intermediate and advanced skiers.

The nuts and bolts

The Kendo’s multi-layer wood core combines dense Ash in the binding area, with softer more flexible Poplar in the tip and tail. This unique combination of woods was chosen to give the skis solid binding retention and powerful energy transfer underfoot, with a continuous and reliable flex in the nose and tail - which buffers and absorbs vibration and chatter in firmer conditions. The core is housed within full ABS sidewalls, which not only help to maintain fantastic edge hold throughout the turn, but also absorb and buffer vibration caused by ruts and “snow cookies”.

Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not important

Between you and the snow is the Kendo’s porous P-Tex 2100 sintered base, which provides you with maximum gliding speed and agility on all types of snow. Known for its high level of wax absorption, abrasion resistance and durability, the Kendo’s base can tough it out even when the conditions aren’t the greatest.

Continuing with the “unseen” theme, the Kendo’s reinforced from nose to tail with an aluminium alloy called Titanal. As well as reinforcing the Kendo, thanks to its high strength-to-weight ratio, the Titanal band also enhances the skis performance by aiding their flex and rebound in and out of turns.

Unchanged for several years, the Kendo’s recipe is so perfect it doesn’t require any tweaks or updates, instead focusing on what it does best – piste-burning, powder-slashing, tree-dodging good times

Size Guide

The size chart below provides a basic guide to finding the right ski length based on your height and ability but there are several other factors you should consider before choosing your new skis!

The two most relevant considerations when interpreting the chart below are your weight and the type of skiing you intend to do.

Weight: If you’re a heavier built that the average person of your height then we suggest choosing a longer ski as a heavier skier requires more edge to grip the snow and more base area for floatation in powder and cruddy snow.  Conversely, if you’re a slimmer build you may want to consider going for a shorter ski as you’ll need less edge / ski to support your weight than someone of an ‘average’ build.

Skier Type: Secondly, if you want a ski that’s going to inspire confidence when you’re skiing fast and you like to ski faster than most, then a longer ski is going to be preferable.   The additional edge and float provided by a longer ski will give you a more stable ride.  If, however, you’re more freestyle focussed and you want a ski that’s going to be more nimble and easier to manoeuvre at low speeds then a slightly shorter ski will work better for you as there will be less ski to manage.

If you have any queries at all on finding the right ski or ski size for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for further advice.
