STRIKING A BALANCE BETWEEN MATCHSTICK-THIN AND OIL-TANKER-WIDE, THE VTA98 EFFORTLESSLY TREADS THE FINE LINE BETWEEN BEING FLOATY ENOUGH FOR POWDER, YET LIGHT ENOUGH FOR LONG TOURS

A direct replacement for the hugely popular Nanuq, the Volkl VTA 98 pays homage to its predecessor by remaining ascent-oriented - offering the best in lightweight tour-ability without compromising any of the descent performance you need to make it home in one piece. At 98mm underfoot it gives you plenty of float in softer conditions, while the unbelievably light core makes climbing and handling in firmer conditions a breeze.

The Slim-Fast plan… for your skis

Weight’s the one thing that matters more than anything in a touring ski. Having proverbial fuel left in your tank at the top is the difference between a controlled, full throttle descent or making sloppy mistakes in often dangerous terrain. To keep the VTA98 as light as possible, Volkl constructed it around their hyper-light, Tourlite wood core – a blend of beech underfoot and paulownia everywhere else. The denser beech creates a solid platform for the binding to be drilled into, not only providing steadfast screw retention but also promoting energy transfer across the skis, resulting in quicker turns. Where the mounting area ends, the beech is joined with superlight paulownia – a softwood known for its mind-boggling strength-to-weight ratio. This reduces the VTA’s swing weight by centring the skis fulcrum, as well as drastically reducing the overall weight.

Wax on, wax off… or is that Ice on, ICE.OFF?

Those of you with a touring pedigree know all too well the headache caused by accumulated snow on your topsheet. It can leave you lugging up to 30% more weight than necessary – slowing down your ascents and leaving you sluggish and fatigued. The boffins at Volkl know this all too well, so they developed a topsheet which could be impregnated with a hydrophobic coating (basically, a fancy way of saying “water repellent”) meaning snow doesn’t have the opportunity to bind together and build up on your skis, leaving you fresh as a spring daisy and ready to tackle those descents.

A little less freeski - but a little more tour - than the BMT models, the VTA98 aims to cater for skiers who find themselves stuck in the middle ground between hyper-light, gram-counters and super-wide, descent-orientated powder hounds. If longer tours and not-so-gnarly descents are more your cup of tea, then you’ll like what the VTA98’s brewing.

UNFORTUNATELY, WE'ARE UNABLE TO SHIP THIS PRODUCT OUTSIDE OF EUROPE, SWITZERLAND OR NORWAY
